Minister of Health Award for Medical Research and Development

On 13 December 2022, the Minister of Health, Professor Vlastimil Válek, awarded scientific personalities for outstanding achievements in projects in the field of applied medical research and development at the Břevnov Monastery.

In 2021, 76 projects were completed within the framework of medical research supported by the Ministry of Health. The selection of the best of these successfully completed projects was carried out by the Agency for Health Research of the Czech Republic on the basis of predetermined criteria. Expert Evaluation Panels The Czech Health Research Agency nominated a total of 12 projects for the Minister of Health's Health Research and Development Award for 2022, the results of which proved to be of the highest quality. The Scientific Council and the Board of the Agency for Health Research of the Czech Republic subsequently selected 10 candidates for the award. Five research teams received the main award for their projects, the Minister of Health Award for Health Research and Development, and another five research teams received Honorable Mention from the Minister of Health.

The most highly awarded projects have provided new insights into the mechanisms of right ventricular dysfunction in chronic heart failure or the prediction of the efficacy of head and neck cancer therapy. The application of molecular and functional diagnostics in therapy for diseases called primary immunodeficiency has also been investigated.

The award of the Minister of Health for Health Research and Development is a proof of the excellent level of science and research in the sphere of health care, it can be used to raise the profile of important scientific personalities working in the sphere of health care, and finally it is also a way to sincerely thank these scientists and their teams for their dedicated, demanding, responsible and high-quality work," Minister of Health Vlastimil Válek.

The awards in the category of the Award of the Minister of Health for Medical Research and Development for 2022 were received by:

prof. MUDr. Vojtěch Melenovský, CSc. working at the Institute of Clinical and Experimental Medicine with the title: Mechanisms of right ventricular dysfunction in chronic heart failure.

prof. MUDr. Jan Betka, DrSc. FCMA working at Motol University Hospital for the project.

prof. MUDr. Anna Šedivá, DSC. working at Motol University Hospital for the project: Modern Approaches to Primary Immunodeficiencies: Application of Molecular and Functional Diagnostics in Therapy.

prof. MUDr. Libor Vítek, Ph.D., MBA. working at the General University Hospital in Prague for the project: Study of Bilirubin Degradation Products Produced during Phototherapy of Neonatal Jaundice.

doc. Ing. Karel Holada, Ph.D . working at the 1st Medical Faculty of Charles University for the project: New possibilities of intravital diagnostics of prion diseases from peripheral tissues and cerebrospinal fluid.

Honorary recognition of the Minister of Health for medical research and development for the year 2022 was received by:

doc. MUDr. Mgr. The role of microRNAs and their target molecules in follicular lymphoma transformation and aggressiveness of chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

prof. MUDr. Jan Starý, DrSc., 2nd Faculty of Medicine, Charles University for the project.

prof. MUDr. Jan Martínek, Ph.D., AGAF working at the Institute of Clinical and Experimental Medicine for the project: G-POEM in the treatment of refractory idiopathic and diabetic gastroparesis - a randomized and controlled "sham" study.

prof. MUDr. Luděk Červenka, CSc , RuthTachezy, Ph.D., MBA , Faculty of Science, Charles University, for the project: The role of renal dysfunction in the progression of chronic heart failure and its possible clinical applications: preclinical studies in animal models.

Ruth Tachezy, Ph.D., Ph.D., Faculty of Science, Charles University, for the project: Determination of phenotype and function of immune cells as predictors of response to treatment in patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck.

The award of the Minister's Prize is associated with a financial reward of CZK 100,000. This year, the winning projects will share a total of CZK 500,000. The five research teams awarded the Honorary Mention of the Minister of Health were presented with a diploma by the Minister.
